STEM+ Academy Contests

This year, we will be regularly recognizing students at each of our academies for outstanding performance in SuccessMaker, in the following categories:

Local Students of the Week

Local & National Students of the Month

Local & National Students of the Year

National Scholars of the Year

Eligibility: students must meet the criteria as follows, and must submit a tweetable (140-characters or less) message to inspire other NEF STEM+ Academy students. Academy Directors must also submit a picture of the students (as their district allows).

 

Students of the Week – The top performing Math and top performing Reading student in each NEF STEM+ Academy will be identified based on their Grade Level Improvement (GLI).

Local Students of the Month – The top performing Math and Top performing Reading students in each academy will be identified by GLI, and be awarded a certificate as the student of the month.

National Students of the Month – One top performing math and one reading students, chosen from all academies, will be identified and receive a certificate as the National NEF/SUNY student of the month.

Students of the Year – The top performing math and the top performing reading student in each academy, as measured by GLI, will be identified as a TEK Systems/NEF/SUNY national scholar, and they will be presented with a plaque.

National Scholars of the Year – One student in math and one student in reading, as the top two GLI performers from all academies, will be presented with a plaque and college scholarship as the national scholar of the year award winners.

 

Additionally, we will be recognizing students who take distinguished advantage of the STEM learning activities available to them at their Academy.

STEM Journey Stories – The top five essays and/or video presentations describing the students’ STEM journeys will be identified. The students will receive award certificates, and the school will receive an award plaque and a grant to purchase additional student STEM resources and materials.
